Here are 5 tips which may help you to get that sleep which you have been so desperate to get.

Food and Drink

In order to increase your chances of getting to sleep you have to make sure that the only thing that passes your lips in the 4 hours prior to you going to be is water. Avoid caffeine for 6 hours before bed and make sure that you are not eating too late either, as food is of course an energy source.

Screen Time

Something which we must recognize is that when we look at the screen of a phone or a tablet, the light makes our brains wake up. When our brains are engaged like this, they begin to activate  and that is why we often can’t relax our minds and slip into sweet sleep when we need it most.

Routine

Another important thing to try and do if you have difficulty getting to sleep is to nail down a routine. If you are going to bed and waking up at different times everyday then your body will not be able to nail down its circadian rhythms. Aim to go to the same bed at each time every night, and waking up at a similar time every morning. If you do this then you will find that you don’t even after to put much effort into sleeping in order to drift off.

Alcohol

Drinking alcohol may very well get you to sleep quickly but it is absolutely essential that you don’t rely on this as your quality of sleep is never good when you drink alcohol. When you have alcohol in your system your brain won’t go into REM sleep and that is the deep sleep which the body needs in order to perform key tasks and functions and in order to stay asleep. Alcohol does feel like the cure to your woes, but the truth is that it really isn’t.

Darkness

The brain perceives light as it being daytime and dark as nighttime which is why it is absolutely essential that you do all that you can in order to get the room as dark as you possibly can. Even with your eyes closed the body recognizes small chinks of light entering into the room and the darker the room is, the faster you will fall asleep and the longer you will stay asleep, this is a very easy trick which can massively increase your chances of getting to sleep and staying there.
