This is a great book which doesn’t take you down the usual road of ‘go and do something that you love’. What the book does instead is to encourage you to keep on working to try and find what your passions are. The book was written by two guys who used to work in silicon Valley and it is filled with some great information that can help you to plot your next move.
Americanah, by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
This best seller is about refusing to accept what you do as defining what you are and how you can bridge the gap between the two. This is a book which will motivate and inspire you to make the contrast between your career and who you are. There is a certain feeling of rebellion which you will get when you read this book in particular, and we could all do with a bit of that.
What Color Is Your Parachute? by Richard N. Bolles
This is one for those who really need some practical advice and it offers a number of tests and exercises that you can do which will help to point you in the right direction. The book can be a little cliche at times but in the main it can help you to reach some conclusions about your career which you may need.
Do What You Are: Discover the Perfect Career for You Through the Secrets of Personality Type, by Paul D. Tieger, Barbara Barron, and Kelly Tieger
This book has an interesting take on how you can find out exactly who and what you are, in terms of personality. Taking this information the book will then be able to help you to define where your passions lie and what that means with regards to your career.
Crossing the Unknown Sea, by David Whyte
Written by poet David Whyte this is a book which seeks to inspire you to take a leap of faith, taking a calculated risk to improve your life. I have to say that this is certainly one of those books which really did accomplish what it set out to with regards to inspiring me to get going in terms my decision making and my choice to just go for it.
These are the books which certainly helped me the most during this time and I really hope that they can help you to take control of your life and your career and make those changes which you feel that you need.
