How to Make a Diaper Cake That the Mom-To-Be Will Never Forget

As an event planner, I’ve done quite a few baby showers, with every kind of theme: Parisian, backyard picnic, zoo animals and more. In addition to the actual edible baby shower cake, of course, the planning is never complete without a diaper cake, which not only makes for a show-stopping centerpiece, but it’s a great shower gift that will save the honored guest the trouble and money of purchasing the first big case of diapers. And, as any handmade gift is, it’s a particularly thoughtful touch for the guest of honor.

Below are the supplies you’ll need to get you started, then simply click through our slideshow to see how to make a diaper cake to suit any baby shower theme.

Supplies:
-Cake Plate (I suggest white)
-Paper towel tube
-Hot glue gun
-Glue dots
-String or standard ribbon
-Tiny colored clothespins
-About 100 diapers (I use newborn size.)
-Ribbon. (I suggest wider [1”+] ribbon, in fun colors and/or patterns.)
-Decorations of your choice (to match the theme, if needed). For this I did mostly newborn items for a baby boy, with pacifiers, slippers, socks, mittens, teething rings, and a lovey as a cake topper (small stuffed animals work well, too!)
