Super Bowl Sunday is almost here! Whether you’re hosting a party, or are just itching to bake something sweet for your littlest football fans, see below for the easiest Super Bowl-inspired sugar cookies, thanks to two simple tricks:
1) Add a little cocoa powder to your batter to achieve the brown color of a football.
2) You don’t need a football cookie cutter. Use a regular circular biscuit cutter or even the rim of a glass and simply cut out a perfect circle. Then use the same circle shape to slice a crescent shape off the top or bottom and voila–football shape!
Easy Sugar Cookies:
3 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
3 tablespoons of cocoa powder
Beat butter sugar and eggs together until fluffy. Slowly add in dry ingredients, roll into a ball and store in the fridge for at least an hour. Roll out dough and cut out footballs, bake on a baking sheet for 7-9 minutes.
Icing:
Wisk 1.5 cups of confectioners sugar into 2 tablespoons of milk. Spoon into a plastic bag and trim off one corner to pipe. Once cookies are cooled, add football lacing to finish.
