Postcard from Cabo San Lucas

Danie Bles certainly deserves the occasional getaway. The personal shopper and fashion stylist runs her own blog (ByDanie), prints her own semi-annual magazine, organizes her own fashion shows, and collaborates with different labels on small collections. And in the midst of her whirlwind career, the fashion powerhouse married her husband, Joris, and had her son Florian, now three.

Given the extensive list of city guides on her website, we trust Bles’ taste in destinations. On a recent trip out of her native Netherlands, Bles chose Cabo San Lucas with her husband, a Baja spot that’s a bit of a stomping ground for fashion’s jetsetters. It’s also one of Mexico’s finest areas for family travel. “For the kids, it’s great to go horseback riding, fishing, or watch the dolphins.”

SLEEP

Lodgings at Las Ventanas al Paraíso vary from spa suites with infinity-edge Jacuzzis to villas with up to three bedrooms—perfect for families. Traveling with little ones becomes even easier with the nanny service, baby monitors, and in-room child-proofing upon request, while Rose Buds For Children keeps children busy with activities and events. Reward good behavior with a treat from the Ty store in The Shoppes at Las Ventanas.

EAT

The nearby Palmilla resort is home to Market, a south-of-the-border venture by world-renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. With a cultural tasting menu of sorts, Vongerichten applied Mexican flavors to Euro-Asian fusion when conceptualizing Market’s menu. Salmon carpaccio, Jordan almond-crusted duck, and resort elegant attire might not make for the best family dinner—Market is best reserved for vacation date night. Be sure to peruse the restaurant’s wine list—the most well-rounded in the country.

DO

The recently reimagined spa at Las Ventanas is not to be missed and prides itself on being one of the best in the country. The spa boasts a “Four Elements” menu, dividing treatments by herbs, oils, and the results they inspire (we recommend the Earth Blend for worn-out mothers or Fire Blend for couples who need a spark).  The five- to 13-year-old set can join you at the spa, too—mini facials, mani/pedis, and even Mommy & Me Duet Massages make for pint-size pamperings.
