VERONICA MIELE BEARD

OCCUPATION: Owner and partner, Veronica Beard

MY STYLE: Eclectic, European, preppy

I LOVE NEW YORK BECAUSE: The possibilities for kids’ activities and opportunities are endless. We live downtown, where all the best galleries and photo studios are located. Our children have had incredible experiences and opportunities made much easier due to our vicinity to talent agents and studios.

Pastis

Try to make a reservation—at least a week or two in advance—for Balthazar’s sister restaurant, as it embodies the lively buzz and crowdedness of the surrounding Meatpacking District. For brunch, the signature museli with hazelnuts and classic French egg dishes are sure to delight. Pastis is also perfect for a timely aperitif before dinner.

EN Japanese Brasserie

This upscale Japanese restaurant serves traditional flavors (black miso cod and homemade tofu with wari-joyu) in a sleek setting. At lunchtime, there are seven “lunch sets” available—each comes with freshly prepared miso soup and a suggested sake pairing. While EN offers takeout and delivery seven days a week, we recommend dwelling in the airy, blossom-filled dining room for as long as possible!

American Museum of Natural History

Known for its dioramas of American wildlife, this mammoth-sized museum has been a family favorite for nearly 150 years. Kids will love the taxidermy animals and prehistoric exhibits, complete with excavated fossils. And when it’s time for a break, you can take in an IMAX show, get a bite to eat in the café, or simply sit on a bench in front of the museum’s enormous T-Rex!

Veronica Beard

These effortless closet staples are sure to get you through the day—from school drop-off to dinner with friends—with style. Check out Veronica Beard’s ingenious blazer and cotton dickey system, through which you can get all the style of a layered look without the bulk!

The Standard Hotel

The Standard does indeed set the bar high. The building itself is vaulted over The High Line, the ground floor beer garden is open-air but weatherproof, and the rooftop bar is a retro wonderland—complete with synthetic green turf and a 360-degree view of the Hudson and beyond.
