The MoMA design store kicks off children’s series with a book about immensity and wonder

The SoHo branch of the Museum of Modern Art’s design store has recently expanded its children’s space; and what better use of the added square footage than a swarm of kids sitting cross-legged on the floor, listening to stories? Hence the new children’s author series—a recurring, Saturday morning event featuring readings and book signings by beloved entertainers. The kick-off event (starting tomorrow, September 15, at 11 am EST) will feature Brooklyn-based author-illustrator, Kate Hosford.

With previous books titled Big Bouffant and Big Birthday, Hosford does not shy away from the larger themes in life. And while her newest title, Infinity and Me, is no exception (parts of the story read like an introduction to existentialist philosophy), Hosford’s characteristic whimsy and bright illustrations add a charming touch of clarity.

In addition to Hosford’s reading of Infinity and Me, which follows eight-year-old Uma on her quest to understand the stars—the Museum of Modern Art will host an author signing, as well as—parents, be warned—an open discussion about infinity itself. On the trip home, don’t be too surprised if kids inquire about the number zero, the universe, and, like Uma, the light cast by the stars. —Lucie Alig
