As it’s Britney Spears’ 32nd birthday and the beginning of December, this mini mani Monday there’s one particular pattern on our minds: plaid. A favorite among proponents of the ’90s fashion comeback (think Clueless or the birthday girl’s “Hit Me Baby One More Time” video) and those wanting to showcase their holiday spirit, tartan nails have been on the tips of many a tween finger lately.
But it’s not just the younger crowd who’s gone mad for plaid. Last year, during an interview with TODAY’s Matt Lauer, Diane Keaton, one of our favorite fashion icons (whose penchant for menswear rivals her alter ego Annie Hall’s), flaunted her perfectly patch-worked fingernails. Keaton joked, “I like to do them myself…Can you tell I painted those on?”
While the star admitted she “so” could not have done her own nails, a plaid manicure is actually not at all hard to recreate.
