Brooklyn mom, Melissa Schweiger, is a fashion and beauty journalist who describes her style as Bohemian tomboy. She is also has two boys – Jonah, 3 years and Ilan 9 months.
How would you describe your style?
Bohemian tomboy. I like comfy, well-made pieces that let me run around with my boys without being a hindrance. I basically live in jeans, t-shirts, hoodies, leggings, tunics and cardigans. All of my clothes tend to be made from yummy fabrics like cashmere, jersey, organic cotton and bamboo. My closet has a lot of vintage in it, as well as pieces from APC, Theory, Rag & Bone, Marc by Marc Jacobs. I live for the boots from Loeffler Randall–they are made from the most gorgeous Italian leather and they look even better as they age.
Which colors/patterns do you love to wear?
I love purple, navy, gray, taupe and black (I am a New Yorker, after all). I like anchoring an outfit with stripes–like wearing a striped tee under a cardigan or peeking out from a v-neck.
Has being a mother changed your style?
Yes, definitely! Comfort is key and everything I wear has to be able to withstand stains. I also don’t follow trends like I used to, it’s all about sticking to the shapes and styles that I know work for me. I have basically retired my heels. Maybe when I’m done with the stroller-pushing I can break out my platforms again.
