I LOVE LOS ANGELES BECAUSE: The city has an entrepreneurial laissez-faire spirit. It affords an amazing

quality of life, and I love that I can go running in a million different directions right outside my door, surf on the weekends with my family, and eat dinner on the beach in February. My kids are surrounded by nature and can play outside year round.

An art museum by definition, The J. Paul Getty—with two L.A. locations and a nearby “Villa”—is more like a city within itself. While art historians and scholars come from far and wide to see the impressive collection of ancient Greek and Roman artifacts (among countless other collections), families also claim the trek to be worthwhile, thanks largely to the hands-on classes and outdoor activities.

Nobu

Warm red and golden hues hug the walls of this trendy chain of restaurants, the popularity of which never seems to die down. And while the glam Hollywood crowd may flock to Nobu for Wagyu tacos, seabass jalapeno miso, and some of the best tasting cocktails under the sun, you can just about anything you want at the restaurant’s many dining rooms. As Marlien Rentmeester puts it, ” I could live on the artichoke salad alone!”

Gjelina

Communal tables, shared plates, and a lively atmosphere have made this Venice Beach eatery one of the most competitive spots on Abbot Kinney. It might also have something to do with the wholesome, unique, and somewat addictive Mediterranean cuisine—including stuffed pasilla chiles, mole chicken in banana leaves, and zucchini tamales.

Shutters

“Beach chic” are the words this Santa Monica hotel uses to describe its aesthetic, and the white-washed suites, ocean blue trimmings, and wicker balcony furniture give visitors the feeling of a cottage on the shore. Gather for dinner served family style at One Pico—one of Shutter’s three restaurants—or book an evening for yourself at the hotel spa.

Beverly Hills Hotel

We’d love to lounge for days on end on the green-and-white-striped pool chairs at this iconic Hollywood hotel. Despite its “throwback” aesthetic (pink stucco, marble bathtubs, you name it), the Beverly Hills Hotel is well equipped to attract today’s hippest crowds—kids included. “We’ll have Easter egg hunts and staycations here,” says Lara Shriftman. “It’s our home away from home. We love the pool and fountain coffee shop.”
