Since 1976, U.S. presidents have recognized the month of February as Black History Month. It’s a time to acknowledge and reflect on the achievements and roles African-Americans have played in shaping history. This year’s African-American History Month’s theme marks the 150th and 50th anniversaries of two pivotal events in African-American history, the Emancipation Proclamation and the March on Washington. We rounded up our top 10 black history books for kids, ranging from stories about Ella Fitzgerald to tales about African-Americans breaking the color barrier in baseball. These inspiring reads, along with our favorite Martin Luther King, Jr. books will help your family celebrate and reflect on Black History Month now and throughout 2013.
