Mercado Barceló

Address: Calle de Barceló, 6, Madrid, ES

This enlosed mercado is temperature-controlled, so you can shop 12 months a year, come rain or come shine. Originally opened as a test market in 1937, Mercado Barceló—the country’s first supermarket—quickly proved itself to be an important culinary hub. “If we want to give the girls a treat, their favorite supper is an enormous bowl of clams or mussels from Barceló,” says Sacha Bancroft Cooke.
