Lamma Island

Known to foster an alternative, hippie lifestyle, Hong Kong’s third largest island—“Lamma” translates to “southern tree branch”—is certainly more relaxed than Central or Kowloon. Be prepared to trek around on foot, as no cars are allowed on Lamma—though bicycles and scooters are encouraged. For a daytrip of rugged scenery and quiet beaches, simply catch the ferry from Central or Aberdeen. “When out at sea, we’ll head to Lamma for a lunch of fabulous local seafood, and take a hike around the island,” says Sharie Ross Tse.
