I love learning about Elizabeth Streets around the world, especially when they are in warmer, sunnier climates than NYC. There’s an amazing Elizabeth Street in Brisbane, Australia filled with shopping centers, beautiful views, and a vibrant local community. As I was researching all it had to offer, I could feel myself escaping the cold and traveling to more mild and breezy environment. Here’s where I would spend my weekend if I could travel to Elizabeth Street, Australia with my family.
SLEEP: Hilton Brisbane Hotel. Located right on Elizabeth Street, this hotel the perfect location to travel the city by foot. Prices range from $250-$789/night. Bonus: The hotel offers a babysitting service!
DATE NIGHT: After a long plane ride, that babysitting service comes to the rescue and the parents sneak out for a date. Only a few blocks away is Jellyfish Restaurant, one of Brisbane’s most celebrated seafood restaurants. Its view of Story Bridge and the Brisbane River looks amazing.
FAMILY DATE: The next day, the whole family could enjoy a nostalgic ride on the The Kookaburra River Queen Paddlewheelers. For the past 20 years, families have experienced scenic cruises with amazing views of the city. While the lunch cruise is tempting, I like the idea of booking a cruise only and stopping for lunch elsewhere. Sometimes it’s fun not to plan ahead too much!
PLAY DATE: RomaStreet Parkland. A short distance from the Hilton is the RomaStreet Parkland, a wonderful gathering place for the community. We suggest downloading a map of the park and taking a self guided art walk. There’s so much to discover!
SHOP: While there are plenty of shopping options on Elizabeth Street, including The Myer Centre, it might be fun to take a cab to the Brisbane Market Place. I can’t think of a better way to get a sense of local culture than to join them at the market on a Sunday morning. A staggering 380 stalls fill the space, so be prepared to take some time here. You don’t want to miss out on a good find!
