The warmer weather got us feeling playful this week which is perhaps why we couldn’t get these fun balloon spring crafts out of our heads—first, we’re obsessed with this idea from Oh Happy Day for balloon place holders. How perfect would these be for a child’s birthday party? Then we saw Kelly Lanza’s gold-flecked balloons on Studio DIY and thought, Even better. Gold-flecked balloon place cards? Now that would make an impression on guests!
Speaking of entertaining, we want to do a lot of it now that the weather is nice and new produce is out. Last week we asked our foodie moms (like restaurateur Caroline Styne and Ali Cole of The Farinata Project) about their favorite spring vegetables and fruits. We took their tips and are excited to cook up a storm with the season’s offerings, so we went looking for lots of spring recipes. Jody Hall, the founder of Cupcake Royale in Seattle, mentioned strawberries, and now we’re thinking strawberries and we’re thinking about whipping up some of Stacie Billis’ Eton Mess strawberry cups this weekend. We’re also thinking about turning some English peas into a creamy puree and frying up a few cheese-stuffed zucchini blossoms. We’re also thinking that kohlrabi fries would be a great introduction to the unfamiliar vegetable for the little ones. Who can argue with anything that goes well with ketchup?!
