Being pregnant is a privilege. Carrying a growing baby around for nine months is a joy (well, other than the nausea, back aches, constant urge to pee…I digress). But there is something that this mama misses when I am eating for two–drinking wine for one.
Once you are knocked up the rules are pretty clear: Lay off the booze. My doctor said I could have half a glass of wine here and there, which was a welcome break from the cranberry-infused water that I drank for most of my pregnancies. Some cultures are a bit more laid-back about drinking during pregnancy (hello, France!), but here in the good ol’ USA, you can be guaranteed a stink-eye the second you try to rest your martini glass on your burgeoning bump.
My recommendation for enduring those nine months? Mocktails. Yep, that’s right–alcohol-free cocktails. Why not? A strawberry daquiri tastes just as yummy without the rum, and don’t even get me started on the deliciousness of a Pina Colada.
