Stargazing: In the Trenches
Natalie Portman channels Linda and (little) Heather McCartney’s timeless style
Ask any mom about the staple pieces that make up her wardrobe, and most will mention great outerwear. Originally reserved for French and British soldiers during World War I, the trench coat is now donned by men, women and children. Rachel Zoe is a fan, and Natalie Portman—in Paris to shoot her latest Dior campaign—has been spotted wearing one two days in a row. Heather McCartney wore a trench to her parent's wedding in 1969 (these days, sister Stella practically designs one per season). Gone are the days when your only option was beige cotton gabardine with a plaid lining, but remember—no matter the fabric—a true trench is always military inspired and worn either open or belted.
