Hollywood’s favorite t-shirt designer prepares for her daughter’s arrival

You’ve seen Jen Menchaca’s lux, lived-in tees on the likes of Heidi Klum, Jessica Simpson, and Nicole Richie, and the tastemaker behind Nation Ltd. has a style as covetable as the starlets that rock her line. These days, the Texas native who took a career cue from her dad’s old tees is preparing to have a daughter of her own. With a well-stocked hospital bag and pre-baby vacation out of the way, Menchaca gears up for her daughter’s arrival with the following mom-to-be must-haves.

(Click on the plus signs to shop Jen's picks)

Jeans: J Brand
Shoes: Mephistos. They’re form-fitting sandals with cork soles that come in great colors!  Since month four, I’ve been wearing them every day.
Fancy maternity dress:
The Nation Ltd. Eastlake dress. I tend to go for the clingy look both for day and night. Otherwise, it looks like I’m wearing a tent.
Everyday maternity dress:
I wear the Nation Lake Havasu tank dress almost every single day. It’s from our summer ‘12 cotton collection and comes in several colors. I have all of them.
Maternity sleepwear:
Nation Santiago Tunic Tank.
Diaper bag:
A plain black Skip Hop Via Messenger.  It’s practical and durable, two concepts I need to get used to.
Stretch mark-fighting cream/ belly oil:
  ErbaOrganics and Bio-Oil.
Items on your registry that you’re most excited about:
I registered for an infant-sized University of Texas Cheerleading outfit. Hook ‘em Horns!

Pregnancy book: Any of my cookbooks! And Origins by Annie Murphy Paul.  It explores the study of the emerging field of fetal origins research.
Music you’ve been playing for your baby:
I have Bellybuds, and play my Jack Johnson station from the Pandora app on my iPhone. I want my baby to know and enjoy adult music. The baby tunes will come in time, though, for sure.
Maternity swimwear?
I just bough a one piece and a bikini from Athleta. I love their styling and colors, and the fit is incredible.
Are you planning on taking a babymoon? We already took a vacation around the Grand Canyon last month and it was FANTASTIC. We wanted to do a trip that was very active since we may not be able to do that until the baby is out of the toddler phase. We stopped at every scenic point, woke up early for hikes, jumped in lakes, drove for hours on end, and ate on the run. I don’t know any baby who would be up for that!

Snack or drink for fighting morning sickness nausea: Don’t kill me, but I never had it.
Crib: I fell in love with the Babyletto Mercer Convertible Nursery Set It’s modern but simple and the price is right on!
Body pillow: I’ve had a favorite pillow for about 15 years now. It’s a super soft down pillow lovingly named Squishy.
What are you bringing to the hospital? An oversized tee, hair bands, my cell phone (for my White Noise, Hipstamatic and Pandora apps), Nivea face cream, M&M’s, and Squishy
Nursery colors: I’m on a “no-pink” rampage so I’m set on a combination of dusty lavender, cream and light gray. It’s understated and sophisticated but can still be very feminine.
Maternity store:
I jut love The Pump Station in Santa Monica!  The people are so helpful and the atmosphere is like a living room. Who knew there were so many things to know about your nipples when having a baby?!
Top pregnancy food cravings: Chicken wings.  Hot. Bone in or out, doesn’t matter.
What baby present would you love from your husband? I know this sounds corny, but I don’t want a thing.  He’s a good egg and I know he’ll be a great partner. He’s up for whatever needs to be done: late-night feedings and diaper changes (poop doesn’t scare him), soothing a screaming baby, and basically anything else that will make my life easier.  That’s the best thing a woman can have.
